Sahyadri Polytechnic was established in 1985 by Sahyadri Education Trust. With the magnificence and single-minded devotion of the visionary and noble-minded, former Director of the Board of Technical Education Shri M.R.D. Sahyadri Polytechnic was started to bring technical education to rural areas under the chairmanship of Mr. DB Chandra Gowda, MP.
The immediate past president Mr. Popular industrialist, educationist and philanthropist Aroor Ramesh Rao took over the mantle of management of SPT since 1996. Under his astute guidance and efficient administration the faculty, infrastructure and atmosphere of the institution has improved to its present status not only in the rural highlands but also throughout the region.
Sahyadri Polytechnic is currently running under the leadership of Mr. KK Nagaraj, a young and dynamic businessman, social thinker and progressive agriculturist.
